Mobile Community Facility
Potential may exist to secure a large bus which
requires refurbishment. Translink is in the
process of buying new buses which is intended
to significantly reduce the age profile of the
bus fleet. The typical cost of purchasing a
second-hand bus could be in the region of £3,000.
Should a bus be secured through Translink, it
may be possible to provide mobile community/childcare/youth/computer/training
facilities and for statutory agencies to hire
the vehicle for consultation and other exercises
The project
could be operated as per the ‘Big Green
Bus’ model which Newcastle Initiative
runs as a mobile community centre.
Income
Generating Mechanism
The project
would allow statutory agencies such as NIHE,
PSNI, NDAI and Ulster Community Hospitals Health
Trust, etc. to lease the vehicle at a commercial
rate.
Other income streams could be investigated with
regard to the training and employment of drivers,
mechanics and other project workers.
